Korda Safe Zone Rubber Beads Ø 4 mm - green - 25 pieces
Korda originally developed these rubber beads for use with Flying Back Leads. The hole in these beads is tapered, meaning it is larger at one end than at the other. When threaded so that the larger hole faces towards the rod, the narrower end can slide over the connection knot between the leader and the main line and grip it firmly.
In this way, a rubber bead prevents the Flying Back Lead from sliding over the leader connection knot. If it did, it would prevent the Flying Back Lead from sliding back up the main line during the cast. Yet that is precisely the purpose of a Flying Back Lead.
The rubber beads are also suitable for use with Safe Zone Leaders. For example, when using these Safe Zone Leaders in the chod style. In this case, two rubber beads secure the short chod rig on one of the two slightly thicker tungsten sections and hold it in position.
The rubber beads are also used for the Shokka rig, where they provide a “back stop” effect. To achieve this, the rubber beads are pushed onto one of the leader's two tungsten sections. When the fish pulls the leader through the running lead after the bite, the lead eventually hits the rubber bead, thereby creating the desired self-hooking effect.
