These small swivels are ideal for incorporating a hinge into a rig. For example, in a pop-up rig tied with a stiff mono leader – just as the well-known English carp angler Terry Hearn likes to use. Such a rig is considered by many specialists to be the ultimate rig for catching big carp and is usually fished as a single hookbait (i.e., without any free offerings) or with only a few free offerings.
 
The Korda team would fish such a stiff pop-up rig with a wide-gape hook, fitted with a small rig ring. First, the short, stiff mono leader is tied to the hook (best done over steam). The steam causes the mono leader to straighten and not extend from the hook eye at too extreme an angle. As a result, the hook stands upright in the water later on.
 
For some time now, these Flexi Ring Swivels have been popular for use with the Rotary Rig. To do this, tie the large ring of the swivel to the end of the leader and thread a longshank hook through the small eye of the swivel. The hookbait slides by means of a small rig ring between two stops on the shank of the longshank hook. The top stop sits in the bend of the hook, the bottom stop sits roughly halfway up the hook shank. In combination with a pop-up bait, this set-up guarantees that the fish can barely blow the bait out anymore. Big-fish specialists like Dave Lane use the Rotary Rig very successfully.
