Aquantic Kveite Jig Shad - The new ultimate lure for halibut, large cod and more in Norway
A dedicated halibut lure that also attracts large cod and similar species. The Kveitejig is lowered to the bottom in water 10 to 150 m deep and lifted 1 m, 3-5 times (jigging motion); it is then reeled in to the surface at a medium speed without stopping and lowered again. Bites sometimes occur only 10 m below the water surface, even if the depth is, for example, 100 m. This is because predatory fish often pursue their prey over a longer period of time.
If you have a bite that does not hook, you must keep reeling and NOT stop, otherwise you will unsettle the predator and it will turn away. If you consistently keep reeling after a missed bite, you will receive another bite shortly after that you can then "convert." The Kveitejig can also be cast; it does not tend to get tangled or twisted while doing so! However, it also catches fish during normal "jigging" or other lure retrieval methods. The described retrieval method is based on the hunting behavior of halibut and is therefore recommended for targeted halibut fishing.
